Job summary

Wellstar Health System Kennestone Hospital is seeking a Histology/Cytology support professional to assist with data entry, specimen processing, and clerical duties within the Pathology lab. Responsibilities include accessioning, preparing cytology and surgical specimens, and handling sendouts under supervision.

The role requires a high school diploma and at least 1 year of related experience, with emphasis on regulatory awareness, accuracy, and ability to work independently.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of lab techniques and principles.
• Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting abilities.
• Cytology and Histology training.
• Histology and Cytology safety regulatory knowledge.
• Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Accurately register and accession patient data and specimen information in the pathology system.
• Verify specimen identification on receipt.
• Perform cytology and pathology preparation on patient samples.
• Handle sendout duties and enter charges.
• Retrieve surgical specimens from operating room and GI Lab.
• Coordinate fetal disposition with nursing staff and Bereavement.
• Follow OSHA, CLIA, CAP, JCAHO regulatory policies.
