SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking a Release of Information Specialist to ensure secure, compliant disclosure of medical records in support of patient care and healthcare operations. You will review requests, process electronic releases, and generate necessary documentation while maintaining logs and supporting regulatory adherence.

The role requires an Associate degree in Health Information Technology and RHIT eligibility with certification within one year.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Health Information Technology required.
• RHIT credential or eligibility to obtain RHIT certification required.
• RHIT-eligible candidates must obtain RHIT certification within one year of appointment.

Responsabilités

• Review medical record requests and authorizations for HIPAA and regulatory compliance.
• Process electronic release of information requests within established timelines.
• Generate correspondence, invoices, and supporting documentation as needed.
• Maintain release of information logs and documentation.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and other health professionals to obtain requested records.
• Prepare and certify medical record subpoenas and related legal docs.
• Perform additional departmental duties and support operational needs as assigned.
• Handle MyChart activation requests and assist with MyChart access phone inquiries.
