Job summary

Kindred Hospital Dayton is seeking a Health Information Technician to maintain HIM integrity through medical record content, abstraction and analysis, with knowledge of HIPAA requirements.

You will collaborate with hospital staff and physicians to ensure timely, accurate records, handle dictation/transcription systems, and keep indexes and storage systems organized. A high school diploma is required; an associate degree in HIM preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in health information technology preferred, or enrollment in a college/university HIM program.
• RHIT certification preferred.
• Minimum 1 year HIM experience preferred.
• Must read, write and speak fluent English.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, analyze, abstract, scan and maintain medical records to ensure verifiable documentation.
• Work with hospital staff, physicians and administration to ensure timely, accurate, and complete medical records.
• Respond to HIPAA inquiries from physicians, staff, and outside entities.
• Proficient in dictation and transcription systems.
• Maintain record indexes and storage/retrieval systems.
• Order supplies as needed to meet budget requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient/employee information.
• Attend mandatory training and staff meetings.
• Represent the organization professionally.
• Follow hospital policies on ethics, safety and confidentiality.
