Job summary

Boston Medical Center seeks an HIM Supervisor to lead the document imaging and indexing operations, ensuring timely patient record availability in the EHR and compliance with HIPAA and Joint Commission standards.

The role oversees staff, sets productivity and quality targets, and partners with Revenue Cycle, IT, and other departments to optimize processes and support safe patient care.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible experience in Health Information Management.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience required.
• Experience using Epic.
• Experience with document imaging and indexing software preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise the daily operations of the HIM Department.
• Plan, assign, and prioritize departmental workload to meet turnaround times.
• Monitor productivity, staffing levels, and workflow for efficiency.
• Develop staffing schedules and coordinate coverage for vacations and high-volume periods.
• Conduct regular staff meetings and communicate initiatives and goals.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Recruit, interview, onboard, train, coach, and mentor staff.
• Complete performance evaluations and set goals.
• Monitor attendance and address performance concerns per policy.
• Provide ongoing staff training and competency assessments.
• Establish and monitor quality standards for scanning and indexing accuracy.
