Job summary

Lawrence Healthcare is seeking a HIM Coordinator to process and manage requests for the release of patient health information with strict HIPAA and privacy controls. The role supports daily HIM operations and ensures secure, accurate records access for patients, physicians, and authorized parties.

Coding support may be required as needed. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and experience in HIM, Release of Information, or medical coding.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read, write, follow verbal instructions and perform basic arithmetic.
• Previous HIM or Release of Information experience preferred.
• Medical coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process and manage requests for the release of patient health information.
• Ensure confidentiality, security, and HIPAA compliance of disclosures.
• Support daily HIM operations and respond to information requests from patients, physicians, facilities, employers, attorneys, agencies and other authorized parties.
• Assist in coding of charts as needed.

Job Objective/Summary:

The HIM Coordinator is responsible for processing and managing requests for the release of patient health information in an accurate, timely, and efficient manner. This role ensures the confidentiality, security, and integrity of patient medical records by verifying authorization and ensuring all disclosures comply with HIPAA, applicable federal and state laws, and organizational policies and procedures. The HIM Coordinator supports daily Health Information Management (HIM) operations by maintaining accurate, secure, and accessible medical records and responding to requests for patient information from patients, physicians, healthcare facilities, employers, attorneys, law enforcement, government agencies, third-party payers, and other authorized parties. The HIM Coordinator will assist in coding of charts as needed.

Job Education, Licenses/Certifications, Knowledge & Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent required. Must have the ability to read, write, take verbal instruction and perform basic arithmetic. Previous experience in HIM or Release of Information Departments preferred. Medical Coding experience preferred.
