Job summary

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies in Irvine, CA seeks an on-site HIL Engineer to design, develop, and maintain Hardware-In-the-Loop test systems for embedded vehicle controllers. You will validate control behaviors, ensure compliance with specifications, and work with subsystem and firmware engineers.

Your focus includes root cause analysis of hardware failures and advancing HIL infrastructure to improve test coverage, with strong collaboration across platform and safety teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronics engineering or related field.
• 3+ years in Hardware-in-the-Loop test systems (dSPACE, NI VeriStand, OPAL-RT).
• 2+ years with embedded control systems and HIL technologies; knowledge of safety practices.
• Proficiency in Python/Pytest and hardware test scripting a plus.
• Experience with CAN, XCP, LIN, FlexRay, CAN-FD and CAN over Ethernet.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop HIL test systems for embedded vehicle controllers.
• Maintain and document HIL infrastructure; run tests to validate designs.
• Coordinate with subsystem/firmware engineers to ensure design conformance.
• Collaborate with architecture teams to simulate specs on HILs.
• Lead hardware failure analysis and document lessons learned.
• Propose improvements to HIL infrastructure to expand test coverage.
• Evaluate HIL hardware APIs with firmware teams.
