Job summary

Arizona Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Operations Technician 3 in the Incident Response Unit, Phoenix, AZ. You will patrol highway corridors, respond to traffic incidents, and support coordinated traffic control for emergencies and events.

After-hours shifts, weekends, and some in-state travel are required. The role emphasizes TIM principles, MUTCD standards, and collaboration with multiple agencies to ensure rapid incident clearance and roadway safety.

Qualifications

• TIM principles, quick-clearance practices, and MUTCD standards.
• ICS and Unified Command principles applied to roadway incidents.
• TTC concepts and MUTCD standards for temporary traffic control.

Responsibilities

• Proactively patrols assigned freeway corridors and responds to calls for service from TOC, law enforcement, and authorized personnel.
• Provides traffic control and scene protection at incidents using signs, cones, and traffic-control devices; lifts and moves equipment up to 75 pounds.
• Coordinates with TOC operators, emergency responders, towing, and maintenance to support safe incident clearance.
