The Commonwealth of Kentucky is seeking a Highway Technician Assistant I in Brooksville, KY. This entry-level role supports highway maintenance operations, including operating light equipment, snow and ice removal, and basic field tasks.

It offers full-time employment with overtime eligibility and a base hourly wage of $17.95. Ideal candidates will be 18+, hold a valid driver's license, and be willing to obtain a Class B CDL within a year, plus First Aid and relevant safety certifications.

Responsibilities

• Operate a small single axle dump truck hauling materials to and from job sites.
• Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader in winter months.
• Operate a tractor-type mowing machine and assist with brush cutting and chemical sprayers.
• Learn and assist with basic surveying activities or construction projects.
• Flag for operations requiring traffic control; perform minor repairs and maintenance.

By joining our Bracken County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I, you'll have the opportunity to perform basic level work of highway roadway or roadside and construction operations in Bracken County. Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary of Responsibilities

• Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and use chemical sprayers.
• Learn and assist with basic surveying activities or construction projects.
• Flag for operations requiring traffic control. Perform minor repairs and maintenance work on equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license. Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions

Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
