As a Highway Technician, you will work on Indiana highways and interstates performing general maintenance to keep the roads clean and safe. Duties include picking up trash and debris, filling potholes, maintaining drainage systems, plowing snow during winter, and assisting with traffic control, especially during emergency road closures. This entry-level position offers opportunities for career advancement. The position requires mandatory overtime for emergency operations, including winter.
The position typically starts at $20.00 per hour. Salary may be adjusted based on education and experience.
Candidates with a current CDL will earn an additional $1 per hour. Those without a CDL will have 90 days to obtain one, with training provided by INDOT, and will then earn an additional $1 per hour upon successful certification.
This position is located in INDOT’s Aurora Unit.

Applicants must have or be able to obtain a CDL within 90 days, pass a drug test, lift 50 pounds, perform physical activities, endure weather conditions, operate traffic equipment, and work as part of a team. Additional knowledge of inventory control systems and bookkeeping may be required depending on the role.
This role may include supervisory duties based on agency needs.
