Job summary

Steele County government is seeking a Project Engineer to deliver civil and engineering tasks for highway projects, including survey, design, staking, and inspection. This exempt, full-time role focuses on survey data handling, hydraulic analyses, easement work, and project documentation.

Under the County Engineer and Public Works Director, the position requires a Civil Engineering background (or related) with municipal experience preferred; strong collaboration with staff and external parties

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Associate degree in civil/municipal engineering or closely related field with relevant experience.
• 4+ years highway/bridge design and construction experience preferred.
• Ability to pass a standard background check.

Responsibilities

• Import survey data into CAD/CADD drafting software and prepare base topographic drawings.
• Perform hydraulic analysis and risk assessments for project plans.
• Prepare construction plan documents, cost estimates, and contract proposals.
• Manage contracts with contractors and design consultants; assist with highway permit reviews.

Education

Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or closely related field

Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field plus two years municipal engineering experience
