The South Carolina Department of Transportation's Charleston Maintenance Office is seeking Heavy Equipment Operators to operate a range of heavy machinery, with opportunities to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional overtime and weather-related adjustments. The State offers a strong benefits package including health insurance, retirement, 13 paid holidays, 15 days of annual leave and 15 days of sick leave per year.

Competenze

• One year of related work experience (minimum).
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
• CDL Class A must be obtained within six months of placement.

Mansioni

Job Responsibilities

The SCDOT Charleston Maintenance Office is currently seeking qualified and motivated individuals to fill Heavy Equipment Operator positions. These positions offer the opportunity to operate a variety of heavy equipment, along with training opportunities to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Employees enjoy a consistent Monday through Friday work schedule from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional overtime and schedule adjustments during inclement weather operations. The State of South Carolina also offers an excellent benefits package, including health insurance, retirement benefits, 13 paid holidays, 15 days of annual leave, and 15 days of sick leave per year.

• Operates and maintains excavator with specialized tree cutting attachment throughout the district.
• Extension tree removal and munching utilizing a 25 ton excavator on uneven, wet and sloped terrain with a 3 ton fix tooth cutting head capable of cutting any size tree.
• Operates excavator adjacent to live traffic on interstates and primary and secondary routes.
• Loads and operates semi-truck/tractor-trailer transporting wide load motorized equipment.
• Conducts safety inspections (preventive maintenance) on all assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Produces daily records of work performed and materials used, records such as HMMS and the requests and complaint forms.
• Set up traffic control according to SCMUTCD standards to warn motorist of road work ahead.
• Assists in emergency operations when crew is in an "On-Call" status after hours, weekends and holidays for all road emergencies including inclement weather, snow and ice, or hazardous road conditions and accidents.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

• One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Requirements

• The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
• May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
• Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
