The Public Works Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled tasks to ensure the safety, functionality, and overall maintenance of the County's public infrastructure, including roads, parks, fairgrounds, and related facilities. This position supports Public Works operations by inspecting and maintaining equipment, documenting time and materials, and executing seasonal operations such as snow and ice control in accordance with County standards. The individual in this role operates a range of light, heavy, and specialized machinery, conducts minor repairs, and supports the upkeep of facilities through routine maintenance activities.
On the highways, this worker performs road surface repairs, right-of-way inspections, and implements traffic control measures in compliance with the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MMUTCD). Within parks and fairgrounds, duties include custodial tasks, facility and grounds upkeep, and logistical support for various public events. In addition to their primary responsibilities, the worker may assist other Public Works divisions, respond to emergency maintenance needs, and participate in projects that support public safety and community access to well-maintained infrastructure.
The position requires flexible work hours, including early mornings, weekends, and rapid response to inclement weather or emergency calls, often within an hour's notice.
2025 Salary Range for this position is $23.43 - $35.14/hour. New hires should expect to start between $23.43-$25.00. This full-time position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and life insurance, as well as paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation.
