Job summary

MnDOT is seeking personnel to carry out daily road surface and roadside maintenance in Minnesota. The role includes operating and maintaining snow and ice control equipment, providing traffic control, and assisting with winter operations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform roadside maintenance activities and roadway surface maintenance.
• Service and perform minor repairs to operating equipment.
• Provide traffic control during maintenance operations.
• Maintain roadways for snow and ice control; inspect and prepare winter equipment.
• Conduct pre-season snow route inspections and post-storm cleanup.

Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (60 sem credits/90 quarter credits)

Job description

Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs daily and routine road surface maintenance activities to keep the roadways and roadsides safe and in good repair according to MnDOT standards. An employee in this class assists in the maintenance and operation of snow and ice control to ensure safe and clear roadways, and performs related work as required. A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.

Performs Roadway Maintenance and Roadside functions such as:

• All activities required for roadside maintenance.
• All roadway surface maintenance activities.
• Services and makes minor repairs to operating equipment.
• Provides traffic control.

Performs Snow & Ice functions such as:

• Maintain roadways for snow and ice control.
• Prepare and inspect winter equipment.
• Perform pre-season snow route inspection and perform post storm cleanup.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with no air brake restriction is required at time of application and must obtain tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire. Must obtain valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with no air brake restriction and tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.

AND

One year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).

OR

Education: Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience.
