The Minnesota Department of Transportation is hiring multiple positions, including Transportation Generalist and Transportation Associate, primarily located at Metro District locations.
The Transportation Generalist maintains and reconstructs roadways, manages traffic barriers, participates in road repair, culvert cleaning, guardrail repair, roadside maintenance, and performs preventive maintenance on highway equipment. Duties also include operating tractors, mowers, rollers, setting up traffic controls, and responding to incidents such as accidents and spill cleanup.
Additional duties include landscaping, rest area maintenance, and snow and ice control activities, which involve operating heavy equipment, removing snow, applying de-icing chemicals, and maintaining winter equipment.
The Transportation Associate is a trainee role with a 12-month probation, focusing on learning road surface maintenance and snow and ice control to ensure safety and road quality.
Candidates must obtain a Class A CDL before the end of the probation period and pass a math and reading test.
