Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to perform vegetation management using tractors and other equipment. The role involves operating dump trucks and small machinery, flagging traffic, and supporting emergency and weather-related operations.

Candidates must have at least 6 months of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Performs vegetation management using medium equipment such as tractors with large mowers or tractors with side mounted mowers. Operates tandem dump trucks for hauling materials in maintenance operations. Operates small equipment including pipe washers, forklifts, brine sprayers, and other equipment as needed. Flags traffic to control flow and protect workers in work zones. May work extended hours or 12-hour shifts during emergencies or inclement weather.
