Job summary

Florida Department of Transportation in Perry, FL is seeking a Highway Maintenance Tech Coordinator. This full-time role coordinates and directs maintenance activities for the chemical herbicide program and highway sign erection, supervising crews and ensuring safety.

You will operate medium/heavy equipment, perform inspections, and maintain records while training staff in traffic control and work procedures. Must hold a valid Class B CDL with air brakes.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Class B CDL with air brakes required at time of hire.
• Able to maintain a clean driving record and meet CDL/FMCSA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the chemical herbicide program and/or the assembly and erection of highway signs as needed.
• Assists in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
• Maintains records of operation. Prepares and maintains daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle check lists.
• Supervises and directs the work of employees.
• Operates vehicles and a variety of medium and heavy equipment. Performs preventative maintenance and pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment operated.
• Performs manual labor in the maintenance of highways, bridges and other highway facilities while utilizing a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools.
• Motivates crew members to improve the quality of work performed and assists in the evaluation of others. Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in crew meetings. Trains crew members in basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
• Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
