Your Specific Responsibilities:

Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the chemical herbicide program and/or the assembly and erection of highway signs as needed. Assists in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees. Maintains records of operation. Prepares and maintains daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle check lists. Supervises and directs the work of employees.

Operates vehicles and a variety of medium and heavy equipment. Performs preventative maintenance and pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment operated. Performs light maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; checks and adds fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc.

Performs manual labor in the maintenance of highways, bridges and other highway facilities while utilizing a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools.

Motivates crew members to improve the quality of work performed and assists in the evaluation of others. Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in crew meetings. Trains crew members in basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Other Job-Related Requirements:

• Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies and be “on-call” (24-hour duty) when necessary. A valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.
• While on-duty status, the positions incumbent must be readily available to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of Commercial Driver's License (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions.
• Obtains and maintains certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level. The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates. This position will be required to respond before, during and following emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Possess a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency. One year experience in infrastructure construction or maintenance is a substitute for a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
• Possess a valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.

This position requires a valid Class B driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

• three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
• any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
• a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
• a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
