Job summary

The Nevada Department of Transportation is recruiting for Highway Equipment Mechanic 1 in the Equipment Shop in Reno/Sparks, NV. Incumbents diagnose, maintain, modify, and repair NDOT equipment and keep the district fleet in good repair for maintenance and emergency response.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship or equivalent.
• Ability to read repair orders, manuals and schematics to diagnose failures.
• Experience with hydraulic, electrical and engine systems on heavy equipment.
• Welding, basic machining, and fabrication skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose cause of component failures via tests, inspections and manuals.
• Repair and overhaul brakes, steering, suspensions and drivelines.
• Service hydraulic systems; replace hoses, fittings and seals; rebuild pumps.
• Repair electrical systems and engines; calibrate and road test after repair.
• Fabricate and modify mechanical components; weld and adjust frames as needed.
