Job summary

MassDOT offers a Highway Engineering Internship for Summer 2027, a 12-week program running May/June through August. Interns will work across the Highway Division, assisting engineers on plans, data collection, and field investigations, with opportunities to network across the Commonwealth.

Ideal candidates will have familiarity with AutoCAD and strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, plus excellent verbal and analytical abilities.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with AutoCAD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates for highway and bridge construction or maintenance projects.
• Provide data for engineering reports and studies.
• Perform calculations related to survey, traffic forecasting, soil capacity, groundwater flow, and material quantities.
• Geocode, pull, redact, and analyze crash data to support road safety evaluations.
• Assist in the biennial inspection of bridges and related documentation.
