Job summary

Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is seeking engineering interns to work with Highway Division engineers. You will participate in site visits, assistance with plans, designs, and data analysis for major highway and bridge projects, and support environmental or traffic studies.

The Engineering Internship Program runs 12 weeks from May/June through the end of August. Interns commit to a full-time schedule and will have opportunities to network across MassDOT divisions.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with AutoCAD.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills.
• Excellent verbal and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates for highway and bridge projects.
• Geocode, pull, redact, and analyze crash data for Road Safety Audits.
• Conduct field investigations to gather information for construction, maintenance, environmental, or traffic problems.
• Review applications for licenses or permits for transportation projects.
• Inspect construction and maintenance operations to ensure compliance with specifications.
