Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Highway/Roads Engineer in Madison, Wisconsin. The successful candidate will serve under a Project Manager, overseeing CAD Designers and ensuring the delivery of detailed engineering designs for urban and rural roadway projects. You will require at least 3 years of roadway engineering experience, a degree, and a Professional Engineer license. Familiarity with Civil3D and substantial CAD engineering software knowledge is essential. You'll mentor junior staff while participating in HDR's employee-owned culture.

Highway / Roads Engineer – Madison, Wisconsin

Responsibilities

• Serve in a technical role under the direction of a Project Manager on the engineering development of urban and rural highway/roadway projects
• Oversee the work of CAD Designers, and junior staff
• Prepare detailed engineering designs for roadway and highway projects
• Grow as a leader providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff
• Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams
• Learn from senior staff to help grow your knowledge and expertise
• Assist with project management responsibilities as Deputy PM (Optional)
• Other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of 3 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
• Civil3D Design and Modeling Experience
• WisDOT Process Knowledge

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license).
• Hands‑on experience with Highways and Roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
• MS Office knowledge
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
