Job summary

Nordstrom Williams is seeking a senior highway engineering leader in Western NY to drive design direction with autonomy and clear visibility across the firm.

You will own scope, schedule, budget, and resource decisions while mentoring a team and building strong client relationships, including proposal input and go/no-go decisions, in a regional public-sector setting.

Qualifications

• NYS PE license required.
• 10+ years of transportation design and project management experience.
• Working knowledge of NYSDOT processes and standards.
• Ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers.
• Proven client relationship and proposal development experience.

Responsibilities

• Leading design production from preliminary concepts through PS&E on roadway projects.
• Owning scope, schedule, budget, and resourcing decisions across multiple projects.
• Mentoring and developing junior, mid-level, and senior engineers.
• Serving as QA/QC checkpoint on engineering deliverables.
• Building and maintaining client relationships across public-sector transportation work.
• Representing the firm within regional engineering organizations and conferences.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading design production from preliminary concepts through final PS&E on roadway and transportation infrastructure projects
• Owning scope, schedule, budget, and resourcing decisions across an active project portfolio
• Mentoring and developing a team of junior, mid-level, and senior engineers
• Serving as a QA/QC checkpoint on engineering deliverables
• Building and maintaining client relationships across public-sector transportation work, with a hand in proposal development and go/no-go decisions
• Representing the firm within regional engineering organizations and at industry conferences

What we're looking for:

• NYS Professional Engineer (PE) license, required
• 10+ years of transportation design and project management experience
• Working knowledge of NYSDOT's Locally Administered Federal Aid process and NYSDOT standards
• Proficiency guiding a team using MicroStation, OpenRoads, and/or Civil 3D
• Someone who leads because they want to grow people, not just projects — whether that shows up today as a practice lead ready for broader scope, or a director-level engineer looking for a firm where leadership is hands-on
