Job summary

MoDOT is seeking a highway designer to determine design features and prepare detailed construction plans for highway projects. You will use CAD and engineering software to compute quantities, assess earthwork, and draft plans across various project stages under supervision.

Responsibilities include developing preliminary to final plans for interchanges and bridges, coordinating with surveyors on land lines, and addressing public inquiries.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor's degree program; for engineering candidates, program must be ABET-accredited.
• Must possess, and maintain, an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0
• Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.

Responsibilities

• Design highway projects, including bridge replacements and resurfacing, and prepare construction plans.
• Compute quantities and estimate costs for project stages from preliminary to final.
• Collaborate with a Professional Land Surveyor to plot land lines and determine easements.
• Develop and review plans for complex projects, ensuring compliance with standards and specs.
• Address public concerns through correspondence, meetings, and hearings.
