Job summary

State of Missouri is seeking a highway designer intern to support the Central District Office in Jefferson City. Under moderate supervision, you will perform computations and prepare plans using CAD and related software.

You will assist in developing preliminary and final plans for interchanges and major bridges, help with earthwork quantities, and contribute to project documentation and environmental statements.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program.
• ABET-accredited program required for engineering candidates.
• GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designs of projects including bridges and resurfacing.
• Use CAD and engineering software for plan prep and computations.
• Assist in development of preliminary, right‑of‑way, and final plans.
• Compute quantities and estimate costs for projects in all stages.
• Address public concerns via written, phone, or public meetings.
• Determine highway design features such as grades and alignments.
• Designs, codes, and supports department engineering software.
• Develop end-user materials and assist with software issues.
