Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Highway Engineer Intern to be based in Newark, Delaware, with an expected start in Spring/Summer 2027.

This internship offers hands-on experience in highway design, traffic control, and project coordination on transportation projects across Delaware and Pennsylvania. You will build analytical and design skills while collaborating with experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm.

Qualifications

• Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or in another related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study.
• Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
• Preferred qualifications include capability in Bentley Microstation, OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD drafting software.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in the development of roadway alignments, traffic control plans, right‑of‑way determination, utility coordination utilizing Openroads Designer, MicroStation, AutoCAD and a variety of Civil Engineering design software applications and MS Office applications.
• Assisting with preliminary to final design calculations and plan development, reviewing of field information, possible field inspection of existing facilities and other work consistent with the duties of an entry level engineer.
• Enthusiastic individuals eager to face new challenges and take on personal responsibilities are best qualified to meet the demands of this work. An intern is expected to be able to apply technical training to perform basic calculations, work well in a team setting and be willing to work diligently to learn new skills.
