Job Summary

This series aims to provide and maintain a safe, efficient transportation system, serving the public courteously and promptly. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications.

The unit maintains drainage channels that handle water west of L303 south to the Salt River and north of the Agua Fria.

Job Duties

• Highway Operations Worker: $18.19 Grade 14 — entry-level duties include operating vehicles and equipment, pavement and landscape care, roadside repairs, signing and striping, and environmental compliance.
• Highway Operations Tech 1: $20.46/hr. Grade 17 — trained to perform advanced duties, including supervising and scheduling work.
• Highway Operations Tech 2: $22.45/hr. Grade 18 — responsible for broader operational duties and supervising staff.
• Highway Operations Tech 3: $24.44/hr. Grade 19 — performs high-level duties and supervises staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Candidates should have varying years of roadway/highway experience, from 6 months to 3 years, depending on the position, involving operation of motorized vehicles, maintenance, signing, striping, pavement care, and landscape preservation.

Requirements

Employees must obtain an Arizona CDL (Class A) permit within 90 days and a full license within 6 months. A tanker endorsement is required prior to start. The role involves emergency response, physical lifting, and driving requirements, including maintaining a valid driver’s license and insurance.
