Job summary

Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services at UMBC in Baltimore, MD is seeking an Operations Controller / Accountant responsible for accounting activities within assigned accounts and supporting the Regional Director of Finance.

The role emphasizes cash handling, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasts, and ensuring accuracy across ledgers with a focus on internal controls and cross‑functional collaboration with campus partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred, or equivalent professional experience
• Minimum of five years’ experience with revenue control, financial reporting and cash handling
• Experience with POS, cash and credit card reports
• Ability to prepare monthly financial statements, key metric reports, budgets and forecasts
• Excellent communication and multitasking in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Oversees cash handling procedures
• Performs reconciliation and analysis for balance sheet accounts
• Analyzes financial results for internal and external use
• Tracks and maintains monthly P/L and balance sheet activity
• Develops forecasts and budgets, identifying risks and opportunities
• Reviews general ledger and balance sheets
• Resolves accounting/reconciliation issues
• Completes financial reports such as monthly, quarterly and annual reports
• Maintains inventory and cost control procedures
• Performs payroll and HR administration
• Performs related duties and special projects as assigned
