Sperton Global AS is partnering with a client, a leader in power technology, to hire a High Voltage Test Engineer for its U.S. Transformer Services team. The role focuses on mobile HV testing, transformer testing, field operations, and detailed reporting across the United States.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in HV/transformer testing, hands-on equipment experience, and strong safety and communication skills. Travel across the U.S. is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years in transformer/high-voltage testing or related environment.
• Hands-on experience with electrical testing equipment.
• Experience with power transformer testing is preferred.
• Familiarity with IEEE/IEC/NEMA standards and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, set up, and operate mobile high-voltage testing equipment and trailer systems.
• Perform high-voltage testing of large power transformers at customer sites.
• Conduct tests: applied voltage, induced voltage, PD localization, and temperature rise.

Sperton Global AS, a global recruitment and consulting firm with offices across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, is partnering with our client, a global leader in power technology and electrical infrastructure, to hire a High Voltage Test Engineer supporting its U.S. Transformer Services engineering team.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced High Voltage Test Engineer to support advanced transformer testing projects across the United States. This is a specialized field engineering opportunity combining high-voltage testing, transformer testing, technical analysis, field operations, customer interaction, and technical reporting.

The successful candidate will work with a specialized mobile high-voltage test trailer, supporting the preparation, setup, operation, and completion of transformer testing assignments at customer sites.

The position offers exposure to large power transformers across a broad range of voltage classes, including high-voltage and extra-high-voltage applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, set up, and operate specialized mobile high-voltage testing equipment and trailer systems.

• Perform and support high-voltage testing of large power transformers at customer sites.

• Conduct tests including applied voltage, induced voltage, partial discharge (PD) localization, and temperature rise.

• Perform and support low-voltage transformer testing, including winding resistance, turns ratio, excitation, and power factor.

• Analyze electrical test results and identify abnormal conditions or potential technical issues.

• Calibrate and verify electrical test equipment as required.

• Support the development and execution of test plans and procedures.

• Prepare detailed and accurate technical test reports following field assignments.

• Communicate test results and technical findings effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.

• Provide technical support to field crews and collaborate with engineers and technicians during testing activities.

• Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues encountered during field testing.

• Provide technical input to proposal and planning activities where required.

• Maintain compliance with applicable safety requirements, industry standards, procedures, and regulations.

• Travel regularly to customer sites across the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline or equivalent practical experience in transformer testing, high-voltage testing, electrical testing, or field service.

• 10+ years of relevant experience in transformer testing, high-voltage testing, electrical testing, field engineering, or a closely related environment.

• Hands‑on experience with electrical and/or high-voltage testing equipment.

• Experience with power transformer testing is strongly preferred.

• Experience with high-voltage systems and exposure to large power transformers.

• Experience interpreting electrical test data and preparing technical reports.

• Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEEE, IEC, and/or NEMA.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and field teams.

• Strong attention to safety, accuracy, and technical detail.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and technical documentation.

• Willingness and ability to travel regularly within the United States.

• Must already have authorization to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not available.
