Job summary

Century Aluminum Company in Robards, KY, is seeking a High Voltage Supervisor to run the switchyard day-to-day, directing hourly crews and contractors while maintaining safety and compliance around high-energy equipment.

The role covers the switchyard, rectifier and DC systems, from interconnection through transformers and cables, stopping at busbars. Requires 161 kV switching authority and strong CMMS experience, preferably SAP PM, with union workforce leadership.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience supervising electrical craft in a heavy industrial environment.
• Competence around high voltage apparatus, switching, isolation and earthing, or ability to obtain 161 kV switching authorization.
• Working knowledge of transformers, breakers, and direct current systems.
• Experience in a unionized workforce.
• Strong planning and scheduling discipline with demonstrated schedule compliance.
• Hands on CMMS experience, preferably SAP PM.
• A personal safety standard that holds under production pressure.

Responsibilities

• Learn Century Aluminum's Safety Mission and apply it in daily work.
• Issue and control permits to work and independently verify isolation boundaries.
• Hold 161 kV switching authorization and supervise independent checks.
• Prepare and execute routine switching; maintain logs and verify post-switch state.
• Audit lockout/tagout, conduct pre-job briefings, control access and contractor entry.
• Own electrical PPE inventory, certifications, and removal from service.
• Build weekly maintenance schedules and craft ready work packages.
• Verify maintenance against criteria and manage deferrals/backlog by risk.
• Negotiate outage windows with operations and plan the outage schedule.
• Supervise hourly crew, timekeeping, and union interface.
• Define competency matrix and deliver craft training; reauthorize switching/isolation competence.
• Manage overtime, call-out costs and labor cost control.
• Oversee contractor site execution, safety compliance, and acceptance of work.
• Own yard infrastructure: fences, drainage, oil containment, SF6 records, transformer oil control.
• Record temporary jumpers and test blocks; restore permanent settings after work.
• Own yard rounds program and reliability reporting.
• Manage standby roster and first-line call-out response.
• Plan and run periodic drills on high-consequence electrical scenarios.
