Job summary

AES Ohio is seeking a Substation Design Engineer to plan, design and deliver electrical substation projects from 12kV to 345kV. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to develop safe, reliable engineering solutions and support project delivery across the grid.

Ideal candidates have an ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree, practical substation experience, and familiarity with standards such as IEEE and NERC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Experience with electrical substation equipment and design principles.
• Familiarity with safety-focused engineering practices and standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed designs for substations, including physical layouts, one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Create comprehensive engineering design packages per AES Ohio standards and IEEE/NERC requirements.
• Prepare technical specifications and support vendor evaluations and procurement.
• Collaborate with field operations and construction teams during construction, maintenance and commissioning.
• Support planning, design and execution of substation capital projects.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of standards, processes and databases.
• Participate in storm restoration and emergency response to restore service safely.
