Job summary

ENGIE North America is seeking a High Voltage Electrician (Journeyman Class A/B or Master) to maintain and operate university campus electrical distribution systems up to 15 kV.

This permanent, full-time role offers a stable 40-hour workweek, no routine overnight travel, and opportunity to support campus facilities, healthcare, research labs, and critical infrastructure on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and a current Iowa Journeyman (Class A or B) or Master Electrician license or equivalent with Iowa reciprocity.
• At least two years of hands-on experience with medium-voltage systems up to 15 kV.
• Experience performing switching, outage response, grounding, and service restoration.
• Experience installing and maintaining medium-voltage cables and underground systems.
• Ability to read one-line diagrams and technical drawings; document activity in CMMS.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair MV systems up to 15 kV.
• Develop and execute switching plans, perform voltage verification and lockout/tagout.
• Install, terminate, splice, test, and maintain MV cables and underground infrastructure.
• Respond to outages, locate faults, restore service, and coordinate planned/unplanned outages.
• Interpret diagrams and schematics to support operations and maintenance.
• Use diagnostic tools to evaluate assets, perform inspections, and ensure safety compliance.
• Document activities in CMMS and mentor electricians, trainees, and contractors.
