The candidate will supervise staff, onboard new Thermo Orbitrap instrumentation, develop LC-MS/MS methods, and manage day-to-day lab operations while ensuring safety and data quality. This position is onsite at Berkeley Lab.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Engineering, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or related field with 3 years of experience.
• Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Thermo Orbitrap ESI-LC-MS/MS instrumentation (IQ-X/Exploris).
• Metabolomics sample processing equipment (UHPLC, SpeedVacs, lyophilizers, centrifuges).
• Onboarding Thermo Orbitrap MS instrumentation into production in a high-throughput metabolomics environment (>10k samples/year).
• Developing and optimizing ESI-LC-MS/MS methods for targeted metabolite classes and implementations in workflows.
• High-throughput metabolomics production: prepare and run samples with standardized workflows in production environments.
• Metabolite extraction across diverse samples (soil, bacteria, plant, environmental) using various solvents.
• Maintain detailed lab records and document workflows; train others in metabolomics and LC-MS/MS operation.

Responsibilities

• Perform and supervise staff in development and application of mass spectrometry workflows in a high-throughput environment.
• Develop and implement ESI-LC-MS/MS workflows for analyzing metabolites.
• Onboard and integrate new MS instrumentation into production workflows; ensure high uptime and data quality.
• Oversee sample preparation and extraction methods for diverse environmental samples, focusing on soil.
• Train staff and interns in LC-MS/MS workflows, data quality control, and lab safety.
• Collaborate with internal/external partners to support R&D projects and metabolomics infrastructure.
