Job summary

Howmet Fastening Systems, a unit of Howmet Aerospace Inc., seeks a Machine Design Engineer to develop high-speed automated equipment for aerospace fastener manufacturing in Fullerton, CA. You will design, prototype, and launch tooling, fixtures, and transfer systems in a high-volume environment.

The role requires a hands-on engineer capable of collaborating with manufacturing, controls, and production teams to deliver reliable machinery and meet safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 3–5 years designing automated machinery or production equipment.
• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) and related tools.
• Experience in high-volume manufacturing and precision tooling.
• Good understanding of tolerancing, GD&T, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and work with machinists and technicians.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-speed automated machinery for fastener manufacturing and assembly.
• Create detailed 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
• Integrate feeding, orienting, transferring, forming, inspecting, assembling, and packaging systems.
• Collaborate with controls engineers to integrate sensors, actuators, PLCs, and robotics.
• Support machine assembly, debugging, installation, and production launch.
• Perform design reviews, root-cause analysis, and continuous-improvement activities.
