Job summary

Dallas Independent School District is seeking a SPED Self-Contained Teacher Assistant for grades 9-12. The role supports the lead teacher with instructional materials, behavior management, and student supervision throughout the school day.

Responsibilities include assisting students with disabilities, preparing classroom activities, maintaining records, and supporting substitutes. Campus-based position requiring reliable, punctual attendance and commitment to student needs.

Qualifications

• Accredited high school diploma or equivalent; plus one of: associate degree, 48 college credits, or pass an academic assessment.
• Paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification.
• Completion of a specific teacher assistant training program or 6 months of related experience.
• Knowledge of child growth and behavior; ability to work with diverse groups; strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with materials and classroom displays.
• Maintain a neat classroom and prepare it for student needs.
• Assist with inventory and equipment care.
• Maintain administrative records and prepare reports.
• Support substitutes with orientation and guidance.
• Assist students with disabilities, including transfers and positioning.
• Assist with personal care needs and feeding as required.
• Support classroom curriculum and instructional exercises.
• Supervise students during lunch, bus, and playground.
• Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff development.
