High School Special Education Teacher

Blackstone Academy Charter School in Pawtucket, RI is a dynamic educational setting which strives to meet the needs of all of its learners while creating an exciting, collegial atmosphere where teachers can grow as leaders. As a staff, we are committed to supporting teachers in both individual and professional development.

For the 2026-27 academic year, we are seeking a talented educator to fill a full-time Special Education teaching position. This position requires a Rhode Island secondary certification, or eligibility to acquire it. The applicant must have a background in science and math.

Our public charter high school serves 350 students from three cities, Central Falls, Pawtucket, and Providence, RI who are admitted through a blind lottery.

Our school is incredibly diverse, and students are challenged to excel in our rigorous and supportive environment. Candidates should be seeking a position in a collaborative, innovative educational environment focused on college preparation and community improvement. They should be comfortable developing curricula, working closely with colleagues, and should have a strong understanding of all the relevant Common Core State Standards and other secondary standards utilized in RI. As Blackstone Academy is an Essential School, applicants should be familiar with the Coalition of Essential Schools philosophy and guiding principles. Blackstone’s faculty and staff consciously integrate social-emotional learning into the curriculum so applicants should have a firm understanding of the importance and power of SEL.

In addition to managing a full teaching load, this teacher will likely instruct one of our signature Community Improvement Projects (CIPs). CIPs are the project-based learning activities that are at the heart of the school’s approach to applying learned skills to the resolution of local community problems. CIPs are graduation-required, and teachers get a great deal of support in developing and running CIPs, as they are unique to our school.
