  • Attend professional workshops and staff meetings as necessary.
  • Supervise paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
  • Evaluate paraprofessional performance.
  • Assist with scheduling for special education students.
  • Comply with policies and regulations.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

  • Valid Missouri certificate issued by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the subject area being taught
  • Previous related teaching experience is desired
Reports To:

Building Principal

Job Goal

To assist students in learning the appropriate subject matter, skills, and/or attitudes that will contribute to their development as responsible citizens.

Performance Objectives
  1. The Special Education Teacher will participate in the special education team process as deemed appropriate to identify students with disabilities.
  2. Develop and implement Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students in the special education program in cooperation with the parents and regular education personnel.
  3. Maintain contact with the parents of the special education students.
  4. Maintain contact with the regular education teachers of special education students.
  5. Prepare materials and provide prescriptive instruction in order to meet the goals and objectives of the individual students as outlined in the IEPs.
  6. Maintain order and establish an environment conducive to learning in the classroom.
  7. Maintain the proper records for each student on his/her caseload as outlined by the Special Education Compliance Program Review Standards and Indicators and district format for file maintenance.
  8. Attend professional workshops and staff meetings as necessary.
  9. Supervise any paraprofessional assigned to the classroom.
  10. Evaluate the performance of paraprofessionals.
  11. Assist the building personnel (principal, counselor, and regular education teachers) with scheduling for special education students.
  12. Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations.
  13. Any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or the building principal(s).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment is on an annual basis. The Building Principal makes employment recommendations in March of each year for the next fiscal year. The final decision is made by the Board of Education. Salary is based on the Certificated Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of MSBA Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Professional Staff (GCN).
