Job summary

ST.JAMES R-I SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking an Elementary Special Education Teacher to support students in developing essential skills and appropriate attitudes for responsible citizenship.

Coaching opportunities are available. You will collaborate with staff to plan lessons, maintain student records, and communicate with families to ensure progress and adherence to district policies.

Qualifications

• Valid Missouri certificate issued by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the subject area being taught.
• Previous related teaching experience is desired.

Responsibilities

• Participates in curriculum review and design
• Employs a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives
• Diagnoses and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner
• Monitors student progress and adjusts instruction accordingly
• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning
• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
• Refers student for alternative services as provided by the St. James R-I School District (ESL, Reading, etc.)
• Establish effective rapport with students
• Formulate good relationships with parents and the community
• Teaches the curriculum adopted and approved by the St. James R-1 School Board of Education
• Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil through the use of technology
• Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
• Available to students and parents for education-related purposes
• Plans and coordinates the work of employees, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips
• Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student
• Creates an environment for learning
• Job would require DECA sponsorship
• Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations
• Other professional duties as may be assigned by the Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment is on an annual basis. The Building Principal makes employment recommendations in March of each year for the next fiscal year. The final decision is made by the Board of Education. Salary is based on the Certificated Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of MSBA Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Professional Staff (GCN).
