ST. JAMES R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT in Missouri is seeking a Middle School Special Education Teacher for 8th grade. The role requires a valid Missouri certificate issued by the DESE in the subject being taught and preferably prior related teaching experience.

The position is annual, with salary based on the certificated salary schedule adopted by the Board of Education. The educator will participate in IEP development and collaborate with parents, general education staff, and building leadership.

Responsibilities

• Identify students with disabilities and participate in the special education team process.
• Develop and implement IEPs for students in cooperation with parents and regular education staff.
• Maintain contact with parents of special education students.
• Maintain contact with regular education teachers of special education students.
• Prepare materials and provide prescriptive instruction to meet IEP goals.
• Maintain order and an environment conducive to learning in the classroom.
• Maintain proper records for each student on caseload per standards and district format.
• Attend professional workshops and staff meetings as necessary.
• Supervise and evaluate paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
• Assist building personnel with scheduling for special education students.
• Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations.

Description: Middle School Special Education Teacher- 8th Grade

Qualifications:

2. Previous related teaching experience is desired

Performance Objective:

1. The Special Education Teacher will participate in the special education team process as deemed appropriate to identify students with disabilities.
2. Develop and implement Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students in the special education program in cooperation with the parents and regular education personnel.
3. Maintain contact with the parents of the special education students.
4. Maintain contact with the regular education teachers of special education students.
5. Prepare materials and provide prescriptive instruction in order to meet the goals and objectives of the individual students as outlined in the IEPs.
6. Maintain order and establish an environment conducive to learning in the classroom.
7. Maintain the proper records for each student on his/her caseload as outlined by the Special Education Compliance Program Review Standards and Indicators and district format for file maintenance.
8. Attend professional workshops and staff meetings as necessary.
9. Supervise any paraprofessional assigned to the classroom.
10. Evaluate the performance of paraprofessionals.
11. Assist the building personnel (principal, counselor, and regular education teachers) with scheduling for special education students.
12. Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations.
13. Any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or the building principal(s).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment is on an annual basis. The Assistant Superintendent makes employment recommendations in March of each year for the next fiscal year. The final decision is made by the Board of Education. Salary is based on the Certificated Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION

An annual evaluation is conducted by the Building Principal using the evaluation method adopted by the Board of Education.
