Job summary

Excel Academy Charter Schools in Rhode Island is seeking a dedicated high school Spanish teacher for our founding 9th grade cohort. You will deliver rigorous, college-preparatory instruction, collaborate with department colleagues on curriculum refinement, and design assessments to measure student mastery of academic standards.

A Bachelor’s degree is required and RI certification is expected or in process; a Master’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Rhode Island Secondary (6-12) bilingual certification or in process.
  • Experience in urban public or charter schools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach High School Spanish to our Founding 9th Grade Students.
  • Collaborate with department members on curriculum refinement and implementation.
  • Design and implement rigorous assessments that evaluate student mastery of standards.
  • Create a safe learning environment and apply Excel’s instructional practices consistently.
  • Provide coverage as needed during non-instructional time.
  • Be an active, productive member of the Excel Academy community.
  • Support the school mission and equity goals.

Excel Academy is a network of 5 schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island that prepares students in grades 5-12 to succeed in high school and college and engage productively in their communities. The majority of our 1,700 students identify as Latinx or Hispanic and will be the first in their families to graduate from college. Excel teachers are responsible for delivering effective, high-quality, rigorous college-preparatory instruction designed to foster the success of their students. They also have a great deal of passion and expertise in their content area that they are eager to share with students.


Starting Salary & Start Date

$50 - 90k, commensurate with experience, and with an 8% raise structure.

Qualifications


  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred;

  • Rhode Island certified (Secondary Bilingual Dual Education Teacher 6-12) or in the process of obtaining certification. You can learn more here:

  • A minimum of two years’ teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred, but not required.


Preference will be given to applicants who share points of intersection with our students, such as speaking Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or a language commonly spoken by our students and families at an advanced level, being first generation college graduates, or having grown up low-income.
