Job summary

Uncommon Schools is seeking a dedicated High School Science teacher to join our network of NYC-area schools. You will teach Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science, guiding students toward AP coursework and college readiness through inquiry, discourse, and evidence-based reasoning.

You will collaborate with the Science department, receive weekly coaching, and contribute to a culture that values equity, professional growth, and student empowerment.

Qualifications

• Commitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academic development.
• Enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students.
• Self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes.
• 1–2 years of experience in urban K-12 settings with STEM emphasis (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Teach Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Sciences with AP preparation.
• Develop students’ questioning, data analysis, and lab skills.
• Foster an environment where students engage in scientific discourse.
• Facilitate student-led discourse with evidence to support claims.
• Lead student-led inquiry and project-based performance tasks.
• Collaborate with the Science department to set academic and engagement goals.
