Job summary

Uncommon Schools, a nonprofit network serving Boston, Camden, New York City, Newark and Rochester, seeks an enthusiastic High School Science teacher. You will cover Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Sciences, guiding inquiry, discourse, and labs to foster college readiness.

You’ll collaborate with the Science department and families, support diverse learners, and participate in ongoing professional development and school-wide activities.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academic development.
  • Enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students.
  • Self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes.
  • Interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools.
  • Academic background in Science, Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree and NJ certification eligibility; NY certification not required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Sciences for AP/college coursework.
  • Develop inquiry skills, questioning, data analysis, and lab work.
  • Foster student voice and scientific discourse in class.
  • Lead student-led discourse, using evidence to support claims.
  • Guide lab and project-based performance tasks with department alignment.
  • Collaborate with Science department to set goals and strategies.
  • Meet weekly with principal/coach to review student work and progress.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families for engagement.
