  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best instructional practices.
  • Ability to provide verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.
  • This individual will exhibit the skills pertinent to fostering positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Ability to deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons across disciplines such as Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, and/or Physics.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Reports to:Building Principal
Work Hours:8 hours/day (7:00 am-4:00 pm)

  • Teachers may supervise students in hallways, cafeterias, and outdoor spaces.
  • Normal 8-hour workdays, except parent-teacher conferences, professional development, and extracurricular activities may extend work hours.
  • Engaging with diverse students, managing classroom behavior, and addressing learning differences.
  • Teachers often spend long hours standing and walking around the classroom or school premises.
  • May need to lift books, teaching materials, and classroom supplies weighing 20 lbs. or more at times.
Relational Responsibilities
  • Establishes positive and appropriate relationships with students.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning academic and behavioral progress.
  • Works with parents and school personnel to provide an appropriate education for each student.
  • Pholds the belief that all students can and will learn at high levels when given the appropriate levels of support and encouragement.
Teaching Responsibilities

  • Utilizes a variety of effective instructional and classroom management techniques.
  • Considers the individual learning needs and abilities of students, as well as schoolwide learning goals, in the preparation and utilization of lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessment documents.
  • Utilizes district-adopted textbooks and curriculum guides in instructional planning and implementation.
  • Incorporates higher-level thinking strategies and real-life applications into lesson planning.
  • Creates instructional and assessment materials that align with learning objectives and methods of instruction.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of related subject matter, instructional skills, and resource materials.
  • Uses available technology or instructional media to enhance students' learning experiences.
  • Continuously and accurately collects student achievement data using a variety of tools (e.g., tests, projects, demonstrations, checklists).
  • Implements useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures.
  • Integrates leadership, technology, and communication into the curriculum.
  • Utilizes this information to make instructional and management decisions that will positively impact student achievement.
  • Produces, utilizes, and maintains student records related to student achievement, attendance, and discipline.
  • Provides a positive and safe environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Takes an active role in establishing and supporting school goals and resolving school concerns.
  • Communicates an expectation of success for all students.
  • Establishes, supports, and administers positive classroom management.
  • Assists with other assigned duties, as appropriate, in support of Meridian Preparatory Academy.
  • Plans for and guides the learning process to help students achieve program objectives.
  • Adapting mathematics curriculum for individual, small group, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students.
