Georgetown Day School, an independent day school in Washington, D.C., seeks a High School science teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Primary job responsibilities include teaching up to four sections of science and related disciplines at the high school. In this role, instructors are expected to place students' interests and experiences at the heart of the classroom, as a student-centered educator. The ideal candidate is committed to developing students' critical thinking and growth as readers, writers, and thinkers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach three sections of 9th grade Biology and one section of Forensic Science
  • Create rich content, creative pedagogy, and authentic relationships are essential components of a GDS classroom.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Offer student support outside of class, as needed.
  • Engage with parents.
  • Meet regularly with department/grade-level teams.
  • Attend divisional meetings and all school events.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • High school teachers may serve as advisor in their second year, as teachers at the high school are assigned a student advisory group.
  • May opt to take on additional roles to supervise student clubs or coach sports.
  • Accomplish all tasks as appropriate. Other duties outside this description may be assigned as necessary.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • A B.S. in Biology, Physics, Chemistry or a related field is required.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Three years or more of teaching experience is preferred.

D.C. Wage Transparency Act Disclosure

Regarding the salary range for this position, GDS follows a Pay Equity Scale for Teaching Staff that recognizes years of direct experience and correlates to steps on the Scale. The HR team evaluates resumes on an individual basis to identify years of experience, which correlates to steps on our scale. A teacher entering in their 1st year of teaching is slated to earn approximately $65,000 annually for the 2026-2027 School Year, and each year of experience equates to approximately $1,000 to $1,500 additional, annually. Roles that start later in the year receive prorated compensation. Compensation for this role will utilize the Equitable Compensation Pay (ECP) and or the Pay Equity Scale (depending upon applicability).
