Job summary

Rock Hill High School seeks a dedicated High School Percussion Specialist to lead a comprehensive percussion program within the band and music department. You will plan and deliver percussion instruction across marching and concert ensembles, designing engaging material for varied skill levels while fostering student growth and teamwork.

You will collaborate with the band director, support performances and competitions, and assess student progress.

Qualifications

• South Carolina certification in Music Education-Instrumental or related field is required.
• Experience with percussion performances at the high school level.
• Experience with high school aged students is required.
• Experience with differentiated instruction and data-driven teaching practices.
• Familiar with educational technology tools.
• Strong classroom management skills and a growth-oriented mindset.
• Strong financial skills, procurement training, and budget management preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging percussion instruction for marching band, concert band, and percussion ensemble.
• Teach fundamental and advanced percussion techniques (snare, bass drum, timpani, mallet instruments, auxiliary percussion).
• Design percussion arrangements and exercises for varying skill levels.
• Assist with marching band preparation, drumline instruction, rehearsals, and performances.
• Collaborate with the band director to support concerts, competitions, and school events.
• Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
• Maintain percussion equipment, inventory, and music library.
• Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Participate in after-school rehearsals, performances, and competitions as required.
