Job summary

Cooperstown Central School District is seeking a qualified School Nurse to support the health, safety, and well-being of students at Cooperstown Jr/Sr High School. This full-time, 10-month position requires a current NYS RN or LPN license and ideally a School Nurse certification.

The School Nurse will provide nursing services, maintain health records, coordinate immunizations, administer medications, and collaborate with staff to promote a healthy learning environment.

Qualifications

• Current New York State RN or LPN license required.
• School Nurse certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Experience in school or pediatric nursing preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate with students, families, staff, and community partners.
• Knowledge of health regulations, confidentiality, and mandated reporting.

Responsibilities

• Plan, conduct, or assist with student health examinations and screening procedures.
• Maintain confidential student health records in compliance with laws.
• Monitor immunization compliance and coordinate clinics and reports.
• Provide first aid and emergency care and arrange follow-up when needed.
• Safely store and administer medications per orders and district policy.
• Assist families in understanding health conditions and accessing resources.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and CSE on health-related education needs.
• Support attendance through medical follow-through related to health concerns.
• Maintain a safe, healthy school environment including emergency preparedness.

Position Summary

The School Nurse provides professional nursing services to students and staff, promotes wellness, assists families in addressing student health needs, and collaborates with school personnel to support students' educational programs as they relate to health concerns.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, conduct, or assist with student health examinations and screening procedures.
• Maintain accurate, confidential student health records in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Monitor immunization compliance, organize clinics, and complete required health reports and surveys.
• Provide first aid and emergency care for student illness or injury and arrange follow-up care when necessary.
• Safely store and administer medications in accordance with physician orders, district policy, and state regulations.
• Assist students and families in understanding health conditions and accessing appropriate medical resources.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and the Committee on Special Education (CSE) to support students with health-related educational needs.

• Confer with coaches and Athletic Director regarding medical, legal, and insurance considerations.
• Arrange completion of physical certificates required for student working papers.

Qualifications

• Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license required.
• New York State School Nurse certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Experience in school nursing or pediatric nursing preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and community partners.
