Organizational Overview

Founded in 2003 to provide a free, public, high-quality college preparatory education for students of East Boston and Chelsea, Excel demonstrates that children’s success in high school, college, and beyond is not determined by zip code. Starting with one school serving approximately 200 students, it has expanded to a network of four schools serving over 1,300 students. Our core belief is that with the right support and tools, students can pursue productive post-secondary pathways aligned with their personal identities and values, which can significantly alter their life trajectories. As a true public school, Excel is inclusive, serving many students with special needs.

After 8 years of operating a small, single-site middle school in East Boston, Excel was designated a “Proven Provider” by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and received two additional charters to serve middle school students. Following four successful years, Excel Academy Charter High School opened in 2015. In spring 2019, the first senior class graduated, marking a milestone for the school.

Duties & Responsibilities

This position involves a variety of essential responsibilities, including (but not limited to):

• Teaching math to several sections of high school students;
• Collaborating with department members to develop and refine Excel’s math curriculum;
• Designing and implementing rigorous assessments to evaluate student mastery of standards;
• Holding students accountable for high behavioral expectations and consistently applying Excel’s behavior management system;
• Providing coverage during non-instructional times as needed;
• Contributing positively to the Excel community; and
• Upholding the school’s mission in all efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred;
• At least two years of teaching experience in an urban public or charter school setting is preferred but not mandatory;
• Unwavering commitment to and belief in Excel’s mission, values, and educational model;
