Job summary

Challenge Preparatory Charter School seeks a Living Environments Teacher to deliver engaging science instruction across grades and labs at multiple Far Rockaway campuses. You will design inquiry-based lessons, supervise laboratory work, and ensure safety and alignment with NY State standards.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred), NYS Certification in the content area, and experience teaching in urban settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• NYS Certification in the appropriate content area.
• Dual licensure preferred: content area and ESL or Special Education.
• 2 years of teaching in urban schools preferred.
• Ability to foster engaging, inclusive learning environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction on Living Environments, including ecosystems, life processes, organism interactions, and environmental influences on living things.
• Develop daily lessons aligned with CPCS curriculum with leadership team input.
• Teach high school level science and lab classes using lectures, technology, and hands-on learning.
• Design, test, and supervise weekly laboratory experiments relevant to current lessons.
• Ensure safety rules for laboratory experiments and proper actions during accidents and emergencies.
• Assign and evaluate coursework, submit grades, and communicate with parents.
• Work to ensure all students are prepared for state exams and meet school goals.
• Maintain records of attendance, participation, homework, lab work, and tests.
• Plan and supervise at least one field trip per school year with parental permission.
• Attend parent-teacher conferences and share detailed evaluations.
• Prepare demonstrations; supervise students during experiments.
• Evaluate student performance using observation, labs, and tests.
• Establish classroom and lab rules; uphold high expectations.
• Participate in coaching and professional development.
• Assist with school programming during non-instructional time.
