Job Title: High School Emergency Medical Technician Instructor -Seasonal Temporary
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Emergency Medical Technician Instructor to provide hands-on instruction in emergency medicine, preparing high school students for
successful careers in the medical field. The ideal candidate will have a passion for
teaching, the ability to engage students in technical learning, and a commitment to guiding them
toward earning industry-recognized certifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction and Curriculum Development:
o Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in emergency medicine, including but not
limited to providing students with both the knowledge and skills needed to assess,
stabilize, and care for patients in emergency situations.
o Develop and implement curriculum aligned with state standards and industry
requirements.
o Integrate safety practices and protocols into all lessons.
Classroom and Lab Management:
o Establish and enforce clear classroom and lab rules to maintain a safe,
respectful, and productive learning environment.
o Supervise students in classroom and lab settings to ensure adherence to safety
standards and appropriate use of tools and equipment.
o Implement consistent classroom management strategies to minimize disruptions
and maximize learning time.
o Promote a culture of professionalism, responsibility, and accountability in all
student interactions.
o Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and records to monitor student progress
and participation.
Student Preparation and Certification:
o Prepare students for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
(NREMT) and other industry-recognized credentials.
o Engage students in medical and trauma simulations that replicate real-world
emergency scenarios
o Mentor students in technical skills, problem-solving, and professional behaviors
required in the EMT field.
Industry Engagement:
o Partner with local fire departments and medical or trauma facilities to create
internships, job-shadowing opportunities, and pathways to employment for students.
o Coordinating guest speakers and career panels featuring EMTs, paramedics,
emergency room staff, and fire-rescue personnel.
Program Maintenance and Development:
o Maintain and manage tools, equipment, and lab spaces to ensure safe and
effective learning environments.
o Stay updated on emerging medical technologies and integrate them into the
curriculum.
o Ensure compliance with all district, state, and federal requirements related to
CTE programs.
Student Career Development:
o Offer structured guidance on career pathways within the Emergency Medical Services
(EMS) field, helping students understand advancement opportunities from entry-level
EMT roles to specialized and leadership position
o Facilitate student participation in SkillsUSA or other competitive events to
showcase skills and enhance resumes.
o Support students in post-graduation planning, including employment or further
education in the emergency medicine field.
Positive and Nurturing Learning Environment:
o Create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that fosters inclusivity and
respect among students.
o Build positive relationships with students by encouraging their growth and
celebrating their successes.
o Provide consistent, constructive feedback to help students build confidence in
their skills.
o Act as a mentor and role model, promoting ethical behavior, teamwork, and a
strong work ethic.
o Address student needs with empathy, patience, and adaptability, ensuring all
learners feel valued and capable of success.
Qualifications:
Relevant work experience in Emergency Medical Services, with EMT-Paramedic certifications or willingness to obtain certification.
Strong technical knowledge of emergency medical care, patient assessment, and pre-hospital procedures.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Passion for working with high school students and preparing them for successful careers in emergency medical services.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching or training in an EMS or healthcare setting
Familiarity with EMS equipment, emergency response protocols, and patient care technologies
Active participation in professional organizations such as the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), National Association of EMTs (NAEMT), or similar
Work Environment:
This position involves working in a classroom and a fully equipped emergency medical training lab environment.
Regular interaction with students, faculty, industry partners, and community stakeholders is
expected.
