Job summary

Tutor Partners is seeking an experienced HS ELA tutor to provide in-person support at Barry J. Nidorf Secure Youth Treatment Facility.

You will work with 6–12th grade students on reading, writing, and language development during a morning schedule. The role emphasizes compassionate instruction in a juvenile justice setting, collaboration with teachers and site staff, and maintaining a safe, supportive classroom environment.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or minimum of 24 college credits required; Bachelor's degree preferred
• Minimum 1 year of experience working with students in grades 6-12; experience in juvenile justice or alternative education settings a plus
• Strong content knowledge in high school ELA, including reading comprehension, writing, and grammar
• Experience supporting English Learners (EL) is a plus
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Ability to pass required background clearances (e.g., LiveScan/fingerprinting) as required by LACOE
• Reliable transportation to assigned site

Responsibilities

• Provide small-group and push-in ELA support aligned to student needs during the school day, including reading, writing, and English language development
• Track and report student progress
• Participate in instructional planning with teachers and school leaders, administration of assessments, and coordination meetings
• Collaborate with Tutor Partners staff and site personnel to coordinate scheduling and materials
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and professional learning environment

Position Overview

Tutor Partners is seeking an experienced, qualified high school English Language Arts (ELA) tutor to provide in-person tutoring services in partnership with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) at Barry J. Nidorf Secure Youth Treatment Facility, one of its Juvenile Court Schools. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a direct academic impact with students in a specialized educational setting.

Monday–Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, now through the end of the 2026-27 School Year

Pay Rate

$20-30 per hour
