Job summary

The Greater Nebraska Schools Hiring Consortium is seeking a Marching Band Color Guard Director/Choreographer for Centennial High School in Champaign, IL for the 2026-2027 season. You will plan and lead color guard rehearsals, teach age-appropriate choreography, supervise students during travel and competitions, and collaborate with the Band Director to finalize costumes, props and show design.

Experience in color guard, dance or related performing arts; ability to design movement and equipment

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator's License (preferred).
• Background and experience in color guard, winter guard, dance, choreography, marching band, or related student performance activities.
• Ability to design and teach age-appropriate choreography, movement, and equipment technique.
• Experience working with high school students (preferred).
• Possess good human relations and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead color guard rehearsals, sectionals, performances, and competition preparation in coordination with the Band Director.
• Design, teach, revise, and clean age-appropriate choreography, staging, movement, and approved equipment work.
• Teach safe handling of flags, rifles, sabres, props, and other approved equipment and establish expectations for attendance, conduct, attire, and equipment care.
• Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, travel, and competitions and comply with District safety and student-accountability procedures.
• Assist with costumes, props, equipment inventory, fitting, setup, storage, transportation, and maintenance planning.
• Collaborate with the Band Director, other program staff, families, volunteers, and building administration.
